Literacy challenges are rooted in language, giving speech-language pathologists a unique perspective and ability to address literacy delays and disorders. We target literacy skills using a combination of approaches, to target functional and age-appropriate skills.

Literacy therapy will address areas such as:

  • Phonological awareness- sound-to-letter correspondence

  • Decoding- sounding out words

  • Encoding- hearing a sound and being able to write the letter/s that represent that sound

  • Reading comprehension

  • Reading fluency- reading a text accurately, quickly, and with appropriate expression
